well, I have a dell 1420 and we have been though some good times and some bad times. This morning was right up the middle (this morning =  5am sleep 8am wake). I upgraded to windows 7 and my data got shifted a bit funny, so I bought another 160 gb drive and reinstalled vista to then upgrade to 7. If you didn't feel a strain from the Vista hate crime OS then you felt it when Gates Co. makes you pay to be able to clean install the OS. Thanks :) 

any way..... I installed vista, got stuck in the middle of 98 some odd updates then i get i got something that ill just quick list because it will be easier for you.. 

• computer bsod's
• restarts asks you to put in vista dvd to repair
• you do as asked and it does not repair
• you then will get something like this: Status: 0xc000000f. Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

• well after looking at that i was a little worried so I kept googling and found these two posts

The second post was what i had to do, which asks you to manually enter commands after entering through setup and trying to repair without luck. I entered the commands then went back and "repaired it again". I figured I blaab about this just in you get a good morning finger from MS, its ok. Google is your friend and be patient. Hope this helps! :)

Now back to the good stuff. We are currently looking for a video focused workstation to use for our video mixing and audio production. We have been getting a lot of good feedback also a link on how to run snow leopard in virtualization which is very exciting to say the least.  I will get a Mac one day because @ElvisofDallas will haunt me with the best advice always ending with buy a Mac :)

However until that time I have been learning the system via hackintosh, getting familiar with the OS and learning to love/hate kexts. From a die hard PC user I like being able to fix most things and thats also possible with Mac's but I'm gonna rock my training wheels while running win 7 and Linux Peppermint dual boot when we get The ASIMO HUMANOID ROBOT PROJECT completed, Asimo will be our babies name :). here are where we are at on configuration of the hardware and how that affects performance for video and audio processing. The current pc we are looking at earning specs are listed below.We don't leave fellow robots in Space *points finger*USA!! Sprint your in our bios and binary.

The Main parts we like are 64 bit/ more memory expansion available (24gbs here) the OS drive is striped and 500 is more than enough for you OS. You get a 1.5tb backup sata drive that you just pull out and dock if needed. There is alot of room for expansion so you can get multiple drives(raid of course) and disc drives if you still use that medium consistanly, go USB if possible :) check it out and if you have advice or thought please chime in.
